Nabopolassar’s Inscriptions: 2 (2024-08-16)
Created by: Wang Jinyan
Baked clay barrel-cylinder with an inscription of the Neo-Babylonian king Nabopolassar; Michael C. Carlos Museum, Emory University, Atlanta (X.3.134).
There are twelve examples of this cylinder inscription, which commemorates the building of the inner wall of Babylon, Imgur-Enlil. These examples can be divided into two categories: “A” and “B” (see Da Riva, The Inscriptions of Nabopolassar, Amēl-Marduk and Neriglissar, [2013] 44). There is also a longer version of this inscription (see Da Riva, op.cit., [2013] C32). The text is inscribed in one column with ruled lines. It starts with the introduction of the king, and continues with the account of the building of the wall. At the end of the text, the king prays for the wall’s intercession in front of the god Marduk: O wall, speak good words (about me) to my lord Marduk! CDLI entry: P283914
