provenience_comments BM web-site: Purchased. All of the known examples with this type of pattern were made of lapis lazuli and were probably made as beads in Afghanistan and exported to Mesopotamia; several seals of this type have been excavated in the Royal Cemetery at Ur. Production date about 2650BC.
